How is it calculated?

  • Net profit = Sale price ÷ (1 + VAT) − Cost − Commission − Shipping − Service fee − Return allowance
  • Commission = Sale price (incl. VAT) × Commission rate
  • Return allowance = Return rate × Cost per return
  • Margin = Net profit ÷ VAT-exclusive sale amount
  • Break-even price = the sale price at which net profit is zero

Where does your sale price go?

With the values above, starting from the VAT-inclusive price, what remains as each cost is deducted:

Line by line

VAT

The VAT inside the price the customer pays is not your income. Profit is calculated on the VAT-exclusive sale amount; enter product cost, shipping and service fees excluding VAT too, so both sides use the same basis.

Commission

Trendyol's commission varies by category and changes from time to time. A calculation with an average rate overstates the margin in high-rate categories; take your own rate from your seller panel.

Platform service fee

Besides commission, Trendyol charges a fixed platform service fee per order. Because it is a fixed amount it weighs more on cheap products: about 11 points on a 100 TRY sale excluding VAT, about 1 point on a 1,000 TRY sale.

Shipping

For low-basket products, shipping is the cost that cuts the margin most: 45 TRY of shipping on a 300 TRY sale excluding VAT is 15 points on its own.

Return allowance

A returned order is more than a cancelled sale; it leaves round-trip shipping and packaging costs. Multiplying that cost by your return rate and spreading it over every sale brings the margin closer to reality.

FAQ

Your questions answered

Divide the VAT-inclusive sale price by one plus the VAT rate to get the VAT-exclusive amount, then subtract product cost, commission, shipping, the platform service fee and the return allowance. What remains is the net profit per unit; its share of the VAT-exclusive amount is the net margin.
